May 13th marks a day where we show our gratitude and appreciation to mothers. Indeed, the role of a mother is never easy and some have even mentioned that all mothers do possess super powers as they complete the myriad of never-ending tasks from house-hold chores to managing the needs of the household on a daily basis. As mothers read tributes and appreciation messages from people about their mothers across the globe, it may get a bit discouraging. You start measuring and comparing, focusing on your inadequacies and hoping to “improve”. The “Proverbs 31 woman” becomes an albatross around your neck depriving you of the joy of serving God in your capacity as a mother.
Dearest sisters-in-Christ, may I encourage and remind you on this special day to recognize
- your worth in Christ.
- your talents and gifts that God had given you
- the importance of your role as a mother in spiritual matters
- the glory that you give to your God when you serve Him faithfully in your role
As mothers, you will always have tiring and trying moments which may discourage you. You may have also believed that you need to carry the cares and burdens of the world upon your shoulders. Striving for perfection is also exhausting. But God waits for you to give in and step aside. Once you end your pursuit of perfection, God can begin His perfecting work in you.
So on this special day, remember
- the kind invitation of our Lord to rest in Him and trust in Him rather than trusting your own capabilities. It is walking in daily obedience to His Word and direction, rather than charting your own course.
- to encourage your fellow mothers and support each other with love. It is good to share tips and tricks on how to deal with household chores and matters, but it is more beneficial to impart spiritual matters and learnings to one another and to continue praying for one another.
Thank you for your sacrifices that come with lots of hard work, blood, sweat and tears behind the scenes. God sees your effort and He will honour and bless you.
“And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men”
Happy Mother’s Day.
