Sermon by Edwin 26 August 18

Living in the days of negativity (2 Chron 21)

Sin has far-reaching consequences

In 2 Chron 21, we read about Jehoram who was evil in the eyes of the Lord (v6). As we know, sin often presents itself as beautiful and pleasurable. However, it has consequences and might lead to trickle-down effects.

In the case of Jehoram, we see such effects in 2 Chron 22:7-10; Jehoram’s decision to compromise by marrying Athaliah led to trouble for Judah, as Athaliah almost destroyed the entire royal family of the house of Judah.

Perhaps, some of us might feel a sense of wickedness surrounding us, and we feel wrapped up in negativity.

Resting in God’s Eternal Plan

Nonetheless, despite the evilness of Jehoram and Athaliah, God did not destroy Judah because of His covenant with the David (21:7). God’s hand was upon them, as He faithfully kept His covenant.

Knowing God, Experiencing Him

The ability to rest in His eternal plans comes from knowing Him and having a close relationship with Him, as the head knowledge moves into truths that convict and transform our hearts. Let us take the step of faith to trust in Him and experience Him.

Let us build a strong foundation in our knowledge of Him, taking that step of faith to experience Him, such that in times of great trouble, we might stand strong in Him.
