Enquire of the Lord and Listen to Him (2 Chronicles 18:4)
This week’s sermon is a continuation of the previous sermon, in which we were reminded to seek the Lord in our everyday decisions.
“What does God want us to do?”
As believers, it is rather instinctive for us to ask ourselves “What does God want us to do?”.
To know what God wants us to do, it goes back to knowing God and building a strong relationship with Him. Naturally, as we seek Him and have faith in His promises (Prov 3:5-6), we will slowly grow to know what pleases Him.
“Are we willing to listen to and obey God?”
However, more often than not, the issue is actually our willingness to listen and obey God. We should also ask ourselves “Are we willing to listen to and obey God?”, especially when we already have a preference for something.
We see this clearly in 2 Chron 18:28-34, when King Jehoshaphat and Ahab went to battle against the King of Syria, despite being cautioned against it from God’s prophet (v14-15) after they enquired of the Lord. Consequently, King Jehoshaphat nearly died in battle as he did not listen to God. By God’s grace and mercy, God saved him (v31). However, King Ahab was not as fortunate; he died in battle (v34).
In conclusion, as we grow in our relationship with Him, growing to know Him and trusting in Him, it will become very instinctive for us to enquire of Him. Let us take that step of faith and obey Him even if it might be difficult, because it is worth it, as we experience the sweetness of trusting in God and pleasing Him.
